Hawaii's newest theatre,
the Kam Hi-Way Drive In, will formally open tomorrow evening,
making it the 19th theatre in the Consolidated Amusement circuit.
Located next to Holsum Bakery, just off Moanaua Road in the
Aiea-Pearl City area, the new theatre is the largest in the
State, with a 1040 car capacity.
Consolidated's Kapiolani
Drive In, by contrast, has a 775 car capacity.
Opening program will feature
the new Universal-International color comedy, "Lover Come
Back", starring Rock Hudson and Doris Day. The picture will
not open nationally until the New York Radio City Music Hall
premiere in mid-February.
The theatre will play pictures
on a simultaneous booking with the downtown Hawaii and the
Varsity.
Features of the new Drive
In include a cafeteria-style snack bar, the latest in projection
and sound equipment, a playground for children and a "stacking"
area outside the theatre to accomodate an overflow and prevent
traffic congestion. |
