This region is home to the first drive-in built in America, the Camden Drive-In located in Camden, New Jersey. Designed and built by Richard Hollingshead, it opened on June 6, 1933. Prior to that night, residents of the eastern U.S. had been watching movies outdoors since the early 1900's; they just weren't sitting in cars.
