Located in Hartselle, Alabama, "The Ranch" was constructed at a cost of $25,000. It sought to bring a touch of the Old West to the New South.

This drive-in was built by the Doc Richter family, who owned multiple drive-ins. Mr. Richter had been responsible for the construction of the first drive-in located in Texas in 1939.

Starlite became the most popular name used for drive-ins. No one knows the exact number of locations with this name, but it must have been upwards of 100.

The Rebel originally opened as the Grove sometime around 1950 and closed in February 1957. It sat dormant for several years before re-opening as the Rebel in August, 1964 (when this picture was taken). The Rebel was the last and longest-standing drive-in in Gadsen; it closed in October 1985 and was torn down in October 1993.
